TAALK Prevention
TAALK Prevention is a replicable community child sexual abuse prevention program which consists of complimentary programs from several non-profits that together can minimize the risk of child victimization.
The program is designed to educate adults about the dangers of child sexual abuse and how to better protect the children in their community. It also empowers adults to recognize and minimize situations that put children at risk and to in turn educate the children in their circle of influence about the danger and how to protect themselves.
We leverage existing programs wherever possible and act as an extended delivery organization for these programs.
Our portfolio of programs currently includes Darkness to Light’s® Stewards of Children sexual abuse prevention training that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program believes and teaches that child safety is an adult's job. Stewards of Children is designed for individuals and organizations that serve children and youth.

Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training Classes
Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children sexual abuse prevention training. This award winning program was recognized as the 2007 Crime Prevention Program of the Year by the National Crime Prevention Council.
Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children is a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse, and motivates them to courageous action. The Stewards of Children program is designed for organizations that serve children and youth, and any/all adults interested in protecting children.
The program includes:
-
An interactive workbook and a 7 Steps Guide for each participant containing the full program curriculum.
-
An accompanying 1 ¼ hour VHS/DVD integrating segments of sexual abuse survivors relating their stories of violation and healing, with segments from the author of the curriculum and from professionals who interface daily with the problem of sexual abuse.
-
Opportunity for discussion about important issues in sexual abuse prevention and the relevance of these issues within organizations that serve children and adolescents.
How can it be used?
-
By individuals who want to become more knowledgeable about how to prevent the children in their circle of influence from the dangers of child sexual abuse.
-
By organizations that seek training for staff and volunteers in the prevention of child sexual abuse.
-
By organizations that need to respond to insurance requirements regarding policy and procedures for child protection.
After training, participants will have resources to react responsibly to incidents of child sexual abuse and understand:
-
The facts of child sexual abuse - incidence rates and effects on individuals and society
-
How child sexual abuse happens
-
Adults are responsible for the protection of children
-
The importance of screening staff/volunteers who work with children and adolescents
-
The importance of a well conceived one-adult/one-child policy
-
The proactive role youth-serving organizations need to take to protect children and educate their communities about child sexual abuse
Stewards of Children Works!
-
In pre-post evaluations of trainings conducted in 9 different organizations that included faith centers, schools, community-based youth programs, and sports/recreational programs, participants demonstrated a 38% improvement in knowledge about sexual abuse and in attitudes about adult responsibility in the resolution of child sexual abuse after exposure to the Stewards of Children program.
-
Two months after training, participants showed a 29% increase in behaviors focused on the protection of children from sexual abuse (e.g., they directed more questions about child protection policy to staff of youth-serving organizations; they talked more with children about healthy sexuality and protection from sexual abuse).
-
On a scale of 1 to 5 participant ratings on the quality and effectiveness of the program was higher than 4 on all questions, indicating that participants find the curriculum compelling.
How is the training delivered?
TAALK Authorized Facilitators will lead a 2.5 hour in person training, using a video/DVD, interactive workbook, and discussion to train responsible adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.
